Abstract:
The Black Cutworm Development Model of Caster and Showers
is a predictive model used to determine future dispersal patterns
of the black cutworm. It is used to assess crop damage.
The model requires input in the form of trap catch numbers, upper air
current data and daily temperatures. Output includes predicted
population numbers and the amount of crop which is lost to this
pest.
The model can also be used to develop management stra-
tegies to control the black cutworm. Several modifications to
this model have been made to enhance its accuracy regarding the
development rate of the insect.
